The article titled "The Role of Arts in Identity Formation and Collective Memory in The Digital Age" examines how art, in the digital age, has transformed from a mere form of individual aesthetic expression into a strategic mechanism for constructing social identity and preserving collective memory. The article's core content analyzes how technological advancements have fundamentally altered the processes of art production, distribution, and consumption, and the impact of this change on how communities remember their past. It emphasizes that the shift of art to digital platforms transcends the physical boundaries traditionally limited to galleries and museums, transforming art into a global language of communication and serving a more inclusive collective identity construction. It specifically highlights how social media and digital archives allow marginalized voices to be heard and enable the permanence of social narratives outside of official history.
The significance of the study lies in its positioning of digital art as a dynamic carrier of social memory. While traditional collective memory is often preserved through static means such as monuments or written documents, the article demonstrates how the interactive nature of digital art transforms memory into a constantly updated and debatable process. In this context, virtual reality (VR) and interactive digital projects, particularly their ability to make historical and cultural values experiential for the younger generation, are among the most critical perspectives offered by this study. The article also holds a valuable place in academic literature for proving that, despite the challenges posed by digitalization, such as copyright and authenticity issues, art remains an indispensable tool for strengthening social bonds through global networks and adapting cultural heritage to the modern age.
